National Sweater Day is a fun way to think about using energy wisely to heat our homes and offices. It’s also a reminder about how we can all play a role in saving energy, reducing pollution and keeping our air clean.
Typically held on the first Thursday of February, National Sweater Day is a WWF Initiative begun in 2010. Since that time over a million Canadians have participated in their schools, workplaces and homes.
Alberta Airsheds Council is encouraging you to put on a sweater and turn down the thermostat at least two degrees to bring awareness to energy conservation.
If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just two degrees Celsius, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about four megatons — equivalent to taking nearly 700,000 cars off the road.
Small actions can lead to bigger changes. Being more conscious of how we use energy each day is a great step towards cleaner air for everyone.
On February 8, turn down the heat, put on a sweater and encourage others to do the same.
