An exciting new partnership has been formed between the Calgary Region Airshed Zone and the Telus Spark Science Center! In honor of CRAZs’ 10 Year Anniversary, Spark has been working with us to create three special events to share air quality with everyone.
The first event, or I should say display will be open to the public on March 1st, 2017. The designers at Spark have recreated the Dirty Sock Challenge. The Dirty Sock Challenge is attaching a sock to a vehicle tailpipe and the sock collects the vehicles emissions for the first minute the vehicle starts. This challenge will be an interactive display in which patrons of the science center can contribute socks that they have tested on their own vehicles. Also contributing socks for the challenge is City of Calgary Transportation, car dealerships, CRAZ members and staff. Please let us know if you want to contribute your “dirty sock”.

“Vehicles are America’s biggest air quality compromisers, producing about one-third of all U.S. air pollution. The smog, carbon monoxide, and other toxins emitted by vehicles are especially troubling because they leave tailpipes at street level, where humans breathe the polluted air directly into their lungs.”

The second event is so important to CRAZ. CRAZ is holding a members only 10 year celebration event at Telus Spark on March 7th, 2017. This event is put on to thank all of our members for their support for the past 10 years. Without the founding as well as current members, CRAZ would not be the great organization it is today. Members and volunteers work tirelessly to create this wonderful organization and make it a leader in air quality. At our celebration event, invitees will be able to view the CRAZ display, watch the 10 year anniversary video with special guest City of Calgary Mayor Nenshi, listen to guest speakers and be able to explore Spark and the traveling Star Trek Exhibit.

Our third contribution will be at the Telus Spark Adults Night Out on March 9th, 2017. Everyone is welcome, book your ticket today! CRAZ will be hosting an interactive display and be present to answer questions from approximately 1800 participants. The theme of the night is “The Human Age – Humans have had an impact on geology, and there’s a movement to name the current geological age after us – “The Anthropocene.” Come explore the impacts we have made on geology and the environment, and what we’re trying to do about it.” Come and explore and make sure you stop to talk with us.

CRAZ would like to thank Telus Spark Science Center for being so involved and helping us spread the word that air quality is important to everyone and we look forward to creating more exhibits and more fun at Telus Spark!
